Xiaomi Redmi 8A Review

The viewing angles of the Redmi 8A are good and the sound is louder than the speaker. However, using the display in sunlight, it felt like it could have been a bit better. We already have an idea of how the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor performs, as we saw it during the Redmi 7A (review) as well, so the Redmi 8A is not much different.

Redmi 8A has a large battery of 5000 mAh to make it live. We used Active WhatsApp accounts, some camera samples during use, used Google Maps for navigation for two hours, running some benchmarks and even after all this, the phone battery lasted all day and at the end of the day 50 percent battery in the phone Was still remaining.

In our HD video loop test, Xiaomi Redmi 8A supported for 16 hours and 31 minutes. The 10 watt charger that comes with the handset charges the phone 25 percent in 30 minutes and 46 percent in an hour. It took 2 hours and 30 minutes for the phone to be fully charged. Let us know that the Redmi 8A smartphone supports 18W fast charging and Xiaomi 18W charger sells for Rs 449.

Xiaomi has used the same camera app as usual. Apart from photo and video modes, you will get shooting modes like Portrait, Pro and Short Video. The handset also has HDR and AI scene detection. We found that during the day, the Redmi 8A focuses faster but the speed decreases slightly in low light.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A Review

Photos taken with the Redmi 8A in sufficient light were good, zooming the sample shots reduced the detail. During the close-up shot we found that the camera creates a good natural depth of field. AI also works fast in the camera app, in this price segment, the photos captured from the handset captured the details correctly.

Portrait shots taken from the Redmi 8A had average edge detection but some of our samples had slightly over-exposed backgrounds. There was a lack of detail in low light, Redmi 8A manages noise in low light but there is a lack of sharpness in the pictures. The detail was captured well in the selfie taken during the day and you can apply the beautification filter before taking the shot.

In low light, the photo quality is not very good because when zooming, grains are seen. The primary camera is capable of recording video at 1080 resolution but there is no stabilization in the handset.

Our decision

Shortly after the Redmi 7A, Xiaomi Redmi 8A has been launched in the Indian market. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor is the same in both phones but the hardware has been improved. Xiaomi Redmi 8A has a larger display and better cameras. Apart from this, Xiaomi has given USB Type-C port and large battery of 5,000 mAh in Redmi 8A.

Recall that some time ago Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 7S (Review) shortly after Redmi Note 7 (Review) and now the same has been done with Redmi 8A. Redmi 8A has been priced slightly higher than the launch price of Redmi 7A, if you want a budget smartphone or a secondary device for a lower price then the Redmi 8A smartphone can be a good option for less than Rs 7,000.
